Description:
A very drab samll lark with an unstreaked breast. Greyer and less heavily streaked upperparts than Greater, with pinkish uppertail-coverts; dark breast-side patch usually apparent, with greyish-buff breast-band. Head pattern less pronounced than Greater's, with rather uniform ear-coverts.
Distribution:
Locally common summer visitor southern parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, except for Hunza, Nagar, Shigar and Ghanche. Breeds in high-altitude semi-desert and rocky hills with sparse vegetation, at 1500-4000m. Winter in less barren habitats at low altitudes.
Behavior:
Forages on ground, restless and searching for food actively. Forms small flocks in non-breeding season. Feeds mainly on invertebrates and seeds; fruits and bulbs also taken. Diet varies seasonally, mainly invertebrates in spring, mixed in summer, and predominantly seeds in winter.
